Heart failure in the outpatient vs inpatient setting: Findings from the BIOSTAT-CHF study
European Journal of Heart Failure Oct 25, 2018
Ferreira JP, et al. - A total of 1,694 inpatients and 822 outpatients with symptoms and/or signs of heart failure (HF) were examined in the BIOlogy Study to TAilored Treatment in Chronic Heart Failure (BIOSTAT-CHF) to explore patient characteristics and clinical outcome between HF patients treated in the outpatient setting vs those who were hospitalized. Findings revealed distinct disparities between inpatients and outpatients with HF. Sickness and event rates were greater among inpatients, but similar or higher event rates were observed in a considerable share of outpatients vs inpatients. As per these results, poor prognosis was also linked to HF outpatients.
