Healthcare resource utilization among children with congenital heart disease: A population-based study
Canadian Journal of Cardiology Jul 09, 2018
Islam S, et al. - Researchers assessed the extent of healthcare resource utilization (HRU) incurred by children with congenital heart disease (CHD) in the first 5 years of life. They undertook a population-based retrospective cohort study including all children born between January 2005-March 2014 in Alberta, Canada. Findings revealed high cumulative HRU among these children in the first 5 years of life, and that it increases with increasing CHD severity. Increasing resource allocation to this group is suggested to improve survival of single ventricle (SV) lesions.
