Gender-related differences in patients undergoing transcatheter mitral valve interventions in clinical practice: 1-year results from the German TRAMI Registry
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jul 01, 2019
Werner N, et al. - By analyzing data from 327 women and 501 men from the prospective and multicenter German TRAMI Registry, researchers assessed how baseline features and clinical outcome could differ by gender among patients undergoing MitraClip ® implantation in daily clinical practice. Significantly older age as well as higher rates of frailty were observed among female patients vs male, while rates of comorbidities were significantly higher in males vs females. After MitraClip® treatment, severe bleeding complications were significantly higher in females, and re-intervention rates were significantly higher in males. Findings revealed safety as well as efficacy with MitraClip ® implantation for treating significant mitral regurgitation. The postprocedural outcomes as well as mortality rates at 1-year follow-up were equal between men and women. At 1-year follow-up post-treatment, a persisting and significant clinical benefit was seen in men and women. Low rates of complication and re-intervention were reported.
