Gastric peroral endoscopic pyloromyotomy reduces symptoms, increases quality of life, and reduces healthcare usage for patients with gastroparesis
Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology Apr 20, 2018
Mekaroonkamol P, et al. - This retrospective study investigated the efficacy of gastric per-oral endoscopic pyloromyotomy (GPOEM) and its effects on healthcare usage in patients with refractory gastroparesis who underwent GPOEM from June 2015 through July 2017 at a tertiary center. Yielded results illustrated that GPOEM was technically successful in all patients. It considerably reduced gastroparesis cardinal symptom index (GCSI) scores in repeated measure ANOVA analysis. The inference drawn was that in subjects who underwent GPOEM for refractory gastroparesis, the procedure significantly improved the symptoms, increased the quality of life, and reduced healthcare usage associated with gastroparesis.
