Fully closed-loop insulin delivery in inpatients receiving nutritional support: A two-centre, open-label, randomised controlled trial
The Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology Apr 20, 2019
Boughton CK, et al. - In this two-center, open-label, randomized controlled trial, researchers ascertained if fully closed-loop insulin delivery in inpatients receiving enteral or parenteral nutrition or both would improve glycemic control vs conventional subcutaneous insulin therapy. Ninety patients were evaluated for eligibility; 43 were enrolled and randomized to the closed-loop group (n=21) or the control group (n=22) between February 8, 2018, and September 21, 2018. According to findings, closed-loop insulin delivery is an efficacious option for improving glycemic control in patients receiving hospital nutritional support to improve glycemic control. In either study group, there were no episodes of severe hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia with ketonemia.
