Frequency, predictors and prognostic impact of pulmonary artery aneurysms in patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension
The American Journal of Cardiology Nov 11, 2018
Nuche J, et al. - In a cohort of pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) patients who had a computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance (MR), researchers focused on the frequency of pulmonary artery aneurysms (PAA), variables related to its development, and its prognostic impact in this retrospective analysis. The definition of PAA was a pulmonary artery >40 mm. According to findings, the frequency of PAA was 38%. For PAA development, PAH time-course was identified as an independent risk factor, while a lower risk was observed in connective tissue disease-related PAH patients. The rates of death or lung transplant from PAH diagnosis were lower among PAA patients, but no differences were found when survival analysis was done from first imaging test. A higher rate of sudden death, albeit non-significant, was seen among PAA patients.
