Frequency of spontaneous resolution of vasa previa with advancing gestational age
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jul 20, 2019
Klahr R, et al. - As vasa previa can result in fetal hemorrhage and death on spontaneous labor, researchers examined the resolution rate of vasa previa across gestation. In addition, they sought for the clinical and sonographic factors that are associated with vasa previa resolution. In this retrospective cohort study, the inclusion of 100 women with vasa previa, diagnosed at a mean gestational age of 22.8±4.9 weeks, was done. Resolution of vasa previas over the course of pregnancy was reported for 39% in this population. The likelihood of vasa previa resolution was high in independent correlation to earlier gestational age at diagnosis, vasa previa not covering the internal os, and not having a resolved placenta previa. Findings emphasize observing women with vasa previa serially to assess for vasa previa resolution, as many will resolve in the third trimester.
