Frequency of 30-day readmission and its causes after percutaneous coronary intervention in acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock

Atti V, et al. - A sum of 46,435 cases were studied to assess the rate of 30-day readmission along with its etiology after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock (AMI-CS) from January 2010 to November 2014 using the International Classification of Diseases-Ninth edition, Clinical Modification (ICD-9 CM) codes. About 9020 individuals were readmitted within 30 days. They observed cardiac conditions, the most common cause of readmission whereas heart failure, the leading readmission diagnosis. They noticed female sex, comorbidities such as heart failure, atrial fibrillation, in-hospital complications such as major bleeding, sepsis, respiratory complications, AKI requiring dialysis, utilization of mechanical circulatory support (IABP and ECMO) as independent predictive factors of 30-day readmission.
