Frailty is associated with mortality and incident comorbidity among middle-aged HIV-positive and HIV-negative participants
The Journal of Infectious Diseases Jan 26, 2020
Verheij E, Kirk GD, Wit FW, et al. - Researchers examined the impact of frailty among the aging but generally younger population with HIV (PWH). Among 598 HIV-positive and 550 comparable HIV-negative participants of the AGEhIV Cohort Study, aged ≥ 45 years, frailty was reported at baseline in 7.5% (n = 86) of participants. During the 4 years follow-up, 38 participants died. Frailty was identified to be strongly associated with death and incident comorbidity. No analyses revealed interactions between frailty- and HIV-status.
