Foveal avascular zone morphology and parafoveal capillary perfusion in sickle cell retinopathy
British Journal of Ophthalmology Aug 06, 2019
Lynch G, Scott AW, Linz MO, et al. - Using optical coherence tomography angiography (OCT-A), researchers evaluated foveal avascular zone (FAZ) morphology and parafoveal capillary perfusion in patients with various stages of sickle cell retinopathy (SCR). Fifty-two patients with SCR and 20 age and race-matched healthy controls were included in this multi-institutional retrospective study. In patients with SCR, the authors found abnormal FAZ morphology and altered parafoveal capillary perfusion. In a qualitative display, the customized OCT-A image analysis method highlights significant quantitative changes in perfusion density mapping with minimal obscuration of OCT-A image details.
