Five-year outcome after off-pump or on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting in elderly patients
Circulation Apr 19, 2019
Diegeler A, et al. - Researchers present 5-year follow-up data of the GOPCABE trial (German Off-Pump Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting in Elderly Patients) after both the 30-day and 1-year follow-up analysis of which demonstrated no significant difference in the composite end point (including death, stroke, myocardial infarction, new renal replacement therapy, or repeat revascularization) between off-pump or on-pump coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). In a random manner, 2,539 patients aged ≥75 years underwent off-pump or on-pump CABG at 12 centers in Germany between June 2008 and September 2011. Findings revealed similarity of 5-year survival rates and the combined outcome of death, myocardial infarction, and repeat revascularization between on-pump and off-pump CABG in these patients. A lower 5-year survival rate was observed in relation to incomplete revascularization, regardless of the type of surgery.
