Five-year follow-up of unaffected fellow eyes in patients with polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy
Ophthalmologica Oct 04, 2019
Kim K, et al. - Via a retrospective study that involved 48 patients with unilateral polypoidal choroidal vasculopathy (PCV), researchers assessed the incidence and risk factors of neovascular age-related macular degeneration including PCV or any type of choroidal neovascularization (CNV) in fellow eyes of unilateral PCV. For the initial PCV diagnosis, optical coherence tomography and indocyanine green angiography were done, and individuals with and without neovascularization were contrasted. During the 5 years, PCV or CNV acquired in 17% of fellow eyes. However, for prospective development of PCV or CNV in fellow eyes, unilateral PCV with contralateral BVN needs cautious monitoring.
