Five-year clinical outcomes after percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair: Insights from the multicenter GRASP-IT registry
American Heart Journal Sep 06, 2019
Adamo M, Grasso C, Capodanno D, et al. - Among consecutive patients undergoing Mitraclip between October 2008 and October 2013 at 4 Italian centers, researchers assessed 5-year clinical outcomes following percutaneous edge-to-edge mitral valve repair. The participants were identified from a multicenter registry named as the Getting Reduction of mitrAl inSufficiency by Percutaneous clip implantation in ITaly. Observations for 5 years after Mitraclip revealed the deaths of approximately half of patients as well as heart failure [HF]-attributed death or admission in almost two thirds of patients. A significantly elevated relative risk of 5-year clinical events was observed in correlation with mitral regurgitation recurrence, ischemic etiology, high comorbidity burden (ie, EuroSCORE II > 5%, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), and advanced cardiomyopathy (ie, left ventricular ejection fraction < 30%, prior HF admission, creatinine > 1.5 mg/dL).
