Fish consumption is associated with a decreased risk of death among adults with diabetes: 18- year follow-up of a national cohort
Nutrition, Metabolism & Cardiovascular Diseases Jun 18, 2018
Deng A, et al. - Researchers followed up 1,136 diabetic adults aged 18 and older for more than 18 years, to determine the beneficial impacts of fish consumption on cardiovascular diseases (CVD) among these subjects who participated in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, 1988-1994. Using Cox regression, they calculated the adjusted hazard ratios (HRs) for the relative risk across the levels of fish consumption. They observed a high consumption of fish was related to a low risk of dying from CVD, especially, stroke, among adults with diabetes. They also found that compared with patients eating fish less than once a week, those eating fish 2+ a week had 70% lower stroke death rate.
