First trimesters pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A levels value to predict gestational diabetes mellitus: A systematic review and meta-analysis of the literature
Taiwanese Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Apr 26, 2018
Talasaz ZH, et al. - In view of the significance of detecting pregnant women at risk of diabetes in first months in providing early intervention for delaying or preventing onset of Gestational diabetes Mellitus (GDM), researchers ascertained the predictive value of first trimester Pregnancy related plasma protein-A (PAPP-A) levels for detecting GDM. This meta-analysis showed that low maternal serum PAPP-A in the first trimester has low predictive accuracy for gestational diabetes mellitus. However, when combined with other tests, this variable may be useful in the prediction. GDM is a silent disease and it has insufficient clear related symptoms, so PAPP-A level could be a potential diagnostic risk factor for evaluating GDM.
