Fertility outcome after treatment of retained products of conception: A systematic review
Gynecological Surgery Jul 20, 2018
Hamerlynck TWO, et al. - Researchers investigated the effects of treatment options for retained products of conception (RPOC) on future fertility by means of a systematic review. They analyzed randomized controlled trials (RCT) comparing different treatment options for RPOC (conservative, medical or surgical treatment, including curettage and/or hysteroscopic techniques, with or without application of anti-adhesion therapy), in women of reproductive age. Findings revealed nonsignificant differences between the use of an anti-adhesion barrier gel vs no treatment after operative hysteroscopy in intrauterine adhesions (IUA) and clinical pregnancy, and between hysteroscopic morcellation vs loop resection in IUAs. This study thereby yielded insufficient evidence on the effects of different treatment options for RPOC on future reproductive outcomes.
