Femoral neck fractures after internal fixation of trochanteric fractures with implants in situ in adults: A systematic review
Injury Dec 11, 2018
Barquet A, et al. - In view of the uncommon occurrence of femoral neck fractures (FNF) after internal fixation of trochanteric fractures (AIFTF) with the implant in situ (WIIS), researchers presented the frequency, risk factors, mechanisms, clinical presentation, diagnostic and therapeutic modalities, outcomes and the eventual prevention of this complication via performing a systematic review. As per findings, FNFAIFTFWII has multifactorial etiology. Despite that the FNFs incidence diminishes with a subchondral positioning of the hip screw, a correct surgical technique does not prevent a FNFAIFTFWIIS, and in fact, a higher incidence of this complication was evident in these correctly treated patients. They realized FNFAIFTFWIIS as a fragility fracture and recommend targetting adequate management of systemic osteoporosis as a main factor of prevention.
