Factors that influence the intended intensity of diabetes care in a person-centred setting

Diabetic Medicine Jul 12, 2019

van Vugt HA, et al. - In this observational study (n=1,284), researchers evaluated the intensity of type 2 diabetes care following the introduction of a person-centered diabetes consultation model that included shared decision-making, and the factors correlated with that intensity of care, after the annual monitoring visit. Post-consultation, 22.8% of individuals chose more intensive care, 70.6% chose no/minimal change, and 6.6% opted for less intensive care. The intended care was most frequently determined by care providers, quality of life, lifestyle, preferences and motivation of the individual, glycemic control, and possibilities for self-management. The intended intensity of care was linked to both disease- and person-related factors in person-centered diabetes care.
