Factors influencing the diagnostic accuracy of laser-scanning in vivo confocal microscopy for acanthamoeba keratitis
Cornea Jun 20, 2018
Kheirkhah A, et al. - Experts ascertained the factors that influence the sensitivity and specificity of laser-scanning in vivo confocal microscopy (IVCM) for diagnosing Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK). For diagnosis of AK, IVCM has a moderate sensitivity and a high specificity. Nonetheless, this diagnostic accuracy was not affected by clinical parameters, when images were interpreted by experienced observers, a higher sensitivity was seen. No significant association of the sensitivity with the duration of disease, size of ulcer, depth of involvement, culture results, or cyst morphology was noted.
