Melo P, et al. - Researchers analyzed the outcome of referrals for external cephalic version (ECV) in this retrospective cohort study of prospectively collected data regarding details of referrals, ECV attempts, and perinatal outcomes. Breech presentation was confirmed in 3,008 women; ECV was performed on 2,614 women, with success achieved in 1,280 women; and 1,234 (97.3%) were cephalic at birth. Observations revealed only a low complication rate in relation to ECV, and this procedure was identified as effective for most breech presentations, enabling vaginal birth and avoiding caesarean section.
