Extension of the direct anterior approach for the treatment of periprosthetic femoral fractures
Journal of Arthroplasty Jun 13, 2019
Thaler M, et al. - Through a study containing 40 patients, the contributors intended to assess outcomes of Periprosthetic femoral fractures (PFFs) patients treated with the extension of the direct anterior approach (DAA) iinterval. Classification of fracture as Vancouver B2 and B3 was made. Five complications i.e, 2 deaths, 1 transient femoral nerve palsy, 1 fissure distal to the stem, and 1 hematoma were noticed. Similar results compared with other surgical approaches in terms of mortality, complications, fracture healing, and dislocation rate were showed by expansion of the DAA interval to treat PFF. The results indicated femoral revision for PFF in the DAA interval as a safe and reliable procedure in comparison with other surgical methods for the treatment of Vancouver B2 and B3 periprosthetic fractures.
