Exercise training workloads in cardiac rehabilitation are associated with clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure
American Heart Journal Jul 17, 2018
Keteyian SJ, et al. - In this retrospective analysis, researchers investigated the link between exercise training workloads in cardiac rehabilitation (CR) and clinical outcomes in patients with heart failure (HF). Findings revealed an independent association of an easily accessible measure of exercise capacity (ie, METs), collected during CR, with the adjusted risk for both all-cause mortality and HF-specific hospitalization in a diverse cohort of patients with chronic HF. The identification of patients that might benefit from closer clinical surveillance was enabled by training at MET levels < 3.5 METs. Moreover, it reinforced adherence to medical and lifestyle preventive strategies.
