Evaluation of serological cross-reactivity between yellow fever and other flaviviruses
International Journal of Infectious Diseases Apr 15, 2019
e Souza NCS, et al. - In this study, researchers tested 79 pairs of serum samples (pre- and post-vaccination), collected in 1997–1998 from children with no history of yellow fever disease and were vaccinated against yellow fever virus (YFV) to assess the influence of neutralizing antibodies against YFV generated by YFV vaccine on the specificity of dengue virus (DENV) and Zika virus (ZIKV) IgG ELISA tests. Findings suggest that YFV neutralizing antibodies either do not cross-react or have minimum cross-reactivity with DENV and ZIKV antigens. This finding is relevant as the vaccine is part of the official vaccination schedule in many regions of Brazil and in other Latin American countries and because the immunization recommendation is being expanded due to the epidemic situation.
