Evaluation of lamina cribrosa thickness in patients diagnosed with central retinal vein occlusion
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Jul 08, 2019
Altunel O, et al. - Researchers conducted this prospective case-control study to assess the thickness of lamina cribrosa (LC) in both eyes of patients with unilateral central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and compared with eyes of age-matched healthy control subjects. The study sample consisted of 38 patients with unilateral CRVO and 42 healthy control subjects. In both eyes of patients with unilateral CRVO and eyes of healthy control subjects, the LC thickness was measured at the center of the optic disc utilizing an enhanced depth imaging with the spectral domain optical coherence tomography. According to results, CRVO patients' LC thickness was thinner in both eyes than that of healthy eyes. No statistically significant difference was found in the thickness of LC between the affected and unaffected fellow eyes. In addition to systemic factors, thin LC can contribute to the development of CRVO as an ocular risk factor.
