Evaluation of cystatin C and NGAL as predictors of mortality in patients undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair (MitraClip)
Clinical Cardiology Oct 09, 2018
Dörr O, et al. - In patients undergoing percutaneous mitral valve repair (PMVR), researchers assessed if serum cystatin C and urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) can predict mortality. They included 120 consecutive patients (age: 77.3 years [±11.2]) undergoing PMVR using the MitraClip® system were included. Cystatin C and urinary NGAL were found to be predictors of long-term mortality in these patients; baseline measures of both were significantly higher in patients who died within 12 months of the procedure. In patients undergoing PMVR, cystatin C and NGAL assessment might be useful in risk stratification.
