Estimating the risk of acute kidney injury associated with use of diuretics and renin angiotensin aldosterone system inhibitors: A population based cohort study using the clinical practice research datalink
BMC Nephrology Jan 07, 2020
Scott J, et al. - Using electronic medical records from the Clinical Practice Research Datalink GOLD, a prospective cohort study was conducted to determine the absolute and relative risk of acute kidney injury (AKI) in maintenance users of renin angiotensin aldosterone (RAAS) inhibitors and diuretics in a “real-world” setting of community-dwelling comorbid adults. Participants were involved if they had one or more chronic diagnoses requiring medication. The sample consisted of 140,952 people. According to findings, RAAS inhibitors/diuretics lead to increased AKI risk. Nonetheless, the absolute increase in AKI risk is low, and any potential benefits need to be considered.
