BMC Endocrine Disorders Jun 29, 2019
Naseribafrouei A, et al. - Among Sami and non-Sami inhabitants of rural districts in Northern Norway, researchers estimated and compared the 8-year cumulative incidence of diabetes mellitus (DM). In the SAMINOR 1 survey, a total of 27,987 subjects (aged 30 or 36–79 years) were invited, and 16,865 participated (60.6%) and in the SAMINOR 2 survey, 12,455 subjects (aged 40–79 years) were invited to take part, and 6,004 participated (48.2%); 3,872 of them had previously partaken in SAMINOR 1. Two hundred one incident cases of DM were identified after 8 years of follow-up. According to findings, no statistically significant difference was noted between Sami and non-Sami in the 8-year cumulative incidence of DM. Sami men and women did have higher baseline BMI and WHtR.
