Epidemiology and risk factors of coccyx fracture: A study using national claim database in South Korea
Injury Jul 15, 2020
Won H, Moon SY, Park JH, et al. - This study was undertaken to investigate the annual incidence, gender-preponderance, age-distribution, seasonal variation, and climatic risk factors of the coccyx fracture. The nationwide data of the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service were applied to distinguish Coccyx fractures, which occurred in South Korea from 2010 to 2018. Researchers applied the International Classification of Diseases-10th Revision code S322 for the identification. They estimated the annual incidence of the coccyx fracture and compared the fractures with gender, age, the month of diagnosis, and climatic factors. They detected a sum of 238,906 patients with coccyx fracture with an average of 26,545 patients a year. The 1:2.6 was the male to female ratio. This study's findings demonstrate that the epidemiologic patterns of coccyx fracture were comparable to other osteoporotic fractures. The data of our research can be applied for epidemiological awareness and prevention campaigns of coccyx fracture.
