Westermann RW, et al. - In patients with femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) syndrome, researchers ascertained the prevalence of preoperative opioid use. They also defined how opioid use influences preoperative hip pain and function at a single center. Prior to arthroscopy for FAI, it is common to use opioid preoperatively which has detrimental effects on hip pain and function. They noted a probability of having meaningful impacts on baseline measures of hip and general health with the cessation of opioid medication for 3 months prior to surgery.
