Engaging patients and families to create a feasible clinical trial integrating palliative and heart failure care: Results of the ENABLE CHF-PC pilot clinical trial
BMC Palliative Care Sep 07, 2017
Bakitas M, et al. – This study strived to assess the feasibility of recruiting and site–differences in ENABLE CHF–PC (Educate, Nurture, Advise, Before Life Ends Comprehensive Heartcare for Patients and Caregivers). In addition, it gauged the longitudinal patient and caregiver outcomes including quality of life (QOL), global health, anxiety, and depression to inform intervention measures and the need for further protocol alterations for a larger clinical efficacy trial. The significance of intervention pilot–testing was underscored via between–site demographic, attrition, and participant–reported outcomes, in culturally diverse populations. The results aided in refining the methodology of an in–progress, full–scale randomized clinical efficacy trial.
