Elevated apolipoprotein B predicts poor postsurgery prognosis in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma

OncoTargets and Therapy Mar 20, 2019

Yan X, et al. - In a subgroup of 164 hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients who had a curative liver resection, researchers assessed the predictive values of apolipoprotein B (ApoB) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) on long-term survival to ensure better management of HCC patients. The participants were from a previously described follow-up cohort and had available pre-surgery ApoB and LDL-C measurements. Findings highlighted the possible significance of ApoB as a new prognosis predicting marker for HCC patients who had a curative liver resection. A worse outcome in HCC patients could be indicated by elevated ApoB level; this could be explained by the link between ApoB and residual liver function.
