Elective cardioversion in the era of novel oral anticoagulants: Does a nurse administered verbal questionnaire for compliance negate the need for routine transoesophageal echocardiography?
Heart, Lung, and Circulation Sep 24, 2017
Rowe MK, et al. - This study assessed if a structured, nurse-led assessment of compliance to anticoagulation prior to external direct current cardioversion (EDCCV) ensures safety without the need for routine transoesophageal echocardiography (TOE). Findings suggested that in order to detect novel oral anticoagulant (NOAC) non-compliance in patients undergoing EDCCV, a standardised, verbal questionnaire can be used. With appropriate compliance assessment a nurse-led EDCCV without routine TOE did not significantly compromise safety in this study group.
