Efficiency of the Foley catheter vs the double balloon catheter during the induction of second trimester pregnancy terminations: A randomized controlled trial
Archives of Gynecology and Obstetrics Oct 14, 2018
Demirezen G, et al. - In second-trimester pregnancy terminations, researchers compared induction-to-delivery intervals of Foley catheters and double balloon catheters. This randomized parallel study included 91 pregnant women with Bishop score < 6 who had second-trimester terminations between December 2016 and December 2017. Compared with women with live fetuses, women with intrauterine fetal death had a shorter time to delivery. In addition, compared with women who never delivered vaginally before, women with a history of vaginal delivery also had a shorter induction-to-delivery time. They also found that, during the termination of second-trimester pregnancy, time from labor induction to delivery was shorter with Foley catheter vs double balloon catheter.
