Efficacy of polyethylene glycol–propylene glycol-based lubricant eye drops in reducing squamous metaplasia in patients with dry eye disease
Clinical Ophthalmology Jul 19, 2018
Aguilar A, et al. - Experts assessed the effectiveness of a polyethylene glycol–propylene glycol/hydroxypropyl-guar (PEG-PG/HP-guar) artificial tear formulation in reducing the squamous metaplasia in patients with dry eye disease (DED) using conjunctival impression cytology (CIC). In patients with DED, CIC score decreased, corneal and conjunctival staining reduced and tear film break-up time (TFBUT) increased with the treatment with PEG-PG/HP-guar artificial tears for 90 days. The ocular surface health could be improved with PEG-PG/HP-guar artificial tears and it could reverse the changes induced by squamous metaplasia in DED.
