Efficacy and safety of enucleation vs resection of prostate for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia: A meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Prostate Cancer & Prostatic Diseases Mar 04, 2019
Zhang Y, et al. - In this meta-analysis, the efficacy and safety of transurethral enucleation vs resection of prostate for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) were determined. Researchers reviewed 31 publications involving 26 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 3283 patients. Based on International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), maximum urinary flow rate (Qmax), and quality of life (QoL), they evaluated efficacy. Outcomes suggest the superior postoperative efficacy and safety profile of enucleation with less hematological changes and severe complications, except for a longer operative time when compared with resection.
