Effects of propofol on colon cancer metastasis through STAT3/HOTAIR axis by activating WIF-1 and suppressing Wnt pathway
Cancer Medicine Jan 29, 2020
Zhang YF, et al. - Researchers focused on the possible role of propofol in the tumor progression of colon cancer. They cultured human colon cancer cell lines and exposed those with 8 μg/mL propofol. They carried out RNA interference to silence the expression of HOTAIR (HOX anti-sense intergenic RNA) or STAT3 (signaling transducer and activator of transcription 3) to investigate their biological functions in colon cancer. They employed low cytometry and transwell assays to evaluate cell apoptosis and invasion, respectively. According to the findings, cell invasion was inhibited and cell apoptosis was promoted by propofol via regulating STAT3/HOTAIR by activating WIF-1 and suppressing Wnt pathway, suggesting a potential therapeutic role of propofol for colon cancer patients in the future.
