Effects of increasing the involvement of community-dwelling frail older adults in a proactive assessment service: A pragmatic trial

Rietkerk W, Gerritsen DL, Kollen BJ, et al. - In view of the fact that a more integrated and proactive care approach is supported by older adults and care professionals, and a way to attain this is proactive outpatient assessment services that unveil the requirements of older adults and deliver person-centered and preventive care, via offering comprehensive geriatric assessments, researchers analyzed 453 older adults (mean age = 77 (± 7.0) years, 62% were women) to determine how an assessment service (Sage-atAge) that aimed at raising participant involvement by individual goal setting and employing motivational interviewing techniques by health-care professionals could influence these community-dwelling frail adults aged ≥ 65 years. Findings revealed that well-being in this study population was not additionally affected by the efforts to improve the involvement of older adults by motivational interviewing and goal setting.
