Effects of exercise training in postoperative patients with congenital heart disease: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Journal of the American Heart Association Feb 23, 2020
Xu C, Su X, Ma S, et al. - By analyzing 9 relevant randomized controlled trials identified from Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, MEDLINE, and EMBASE, researchers investigated how exercise training can influence quality of life, specific biomarkers, exercise capacity, and vascular function in congenital heart disease patients after surgery. They found 1,161 records via the literature search. The included studies were those assessing results prior to and following exercise training in postoperative patients with congenital heart disease. Experts found insufficient evidence to indicate that improved long-term follow-up outcomes can be achieved by physical exercise in patients with congenital heart disease, although some minor effects of physical exercise on quality of life were shown.
