Effects of crocin on diabetic maculopathy: A placebo-controlled randomized clinical trial

Sepahi S, et al. - In this trial, the experts sought to assess the effects of crocin as a supplement on reducing inflammation in patients with diabetic maculopathy. For treatment of refractory diabetic macular edema, crocin was indicated to be a potent antioxidant and neuroprotective in short term. Compared to the placebo group, administration of crocin 15mg tablet per day could notably decrease (HbA1c), and central macular thickness (CMT) and improve best corrected visual acuity (BCVA).
