Effects of acute NEFA manipulation on incretin-induced insulin secretion in participants with and without type 2 diabetes
Diabetologia - Clinical and Experimental Diabetes and Metabolism May 15, 2018
Astiarraga B, et al. - Researchers attempted to test the impact of acute bidirectional NEFA manipulation on incretin-induced insulin secretion in members with and without type 2 diabetes. This study was conducted on thirteen people with type 2 diabetes and ten non-diabetic volunteers. They reported that in non-diabetic individuals, raising NEFA selectively impairs incretin effect and insulin sensitivity whereas, in people with diabetes, acute NEFA reduction lowers plasma glucose and enhances insulin sensitivity but did not correct the impaired incretin-induced potentiation.
