Effect on 30-day readmissions after early vs delayed discharge after uncomplicated transcatheter aortic valve implantation (from the Nationwide Readmissions Database)
The American Journal of Cardiology Oct 18, 2019
Omer MA, Smolderen K, Kennedy K, et al. - Researchers examined a propensity-matched cohort to compare 30-day readmission rates among patients who had uncomplicated endovascular TAVR and were discharged early (<3 days) vs late (≥ 3 days) after the procedure. For this purpose, they used the National Readmission Databases. They also looked at the factors related to the failure of early discharge by examining for interactions of patient factors with discharge strategy. Findings revealed no link of early discharge after uncomplicated TAVR with a higher rate of 30-day rehospitalization, however, significant variability across US hospitals was reported. No relation was found between patient characteristics and increased risk of readmission with early discharge.
