Effect of statin therapy and long term mortality following trans-catheter aortic valve implantation
The American Journal of Cardiology Mar 21, 2019
Merdler I, et al. - In this retrospective analysis of 1,238 patients undergoing trans-catheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), researchers evaluated the effect of baseline statin therapy on procedural outcomes and on post-procedural mortality. The participants were divided into high intensity statin (HIS), low-medium intensity statins (LMIS), and no statin (NS) groups. Findings revealed similar procedural outcomes between groups. At 1-month and 1-year, short-term mortality differences were not statistically significant. Overall, attenuated rates of long term morality following TAVI were observed in relation to baseline HIS therapy. The HIS group was significantly associated with reduced risk of long term mortality in multivariate analysis
