Effect of oxidative stress on racial differences in vascular function at rest and during hand grip exercise
Journal of Hypertension Sep 05, 2017
Kappus RM, et al. – Prevalence of hypertension is higher among African–Americans versus whites, most likely due to elevated oxidative stress and subsequent vascular dysfunction. The contribution of aging to oxidative stress and vascular function in a racially diverse cohort still remains unclear. In this current study, it was shown that antioxidant (AOX) supplementation brought about differential impacts on macrovascular and resistance vessel function in young and older African–American and white participants, and this was influenced by both age and race.
