Effect of left ventricular reverse remodeling on long-term outcomes after aortic valve replacement

The American Journal of Cardiology Apr 16, 2019

Izumi C, et al. - Using a retrospective multicenter registry in Japan (J-PROVE-Retro), researchers analyzed long-term outcomes as well as the prognostic influence of follow-up echocardiographic parameters following aortic valve replacement (AVR). This study included 456 consecutive patients. The participants had undergone AVR for aortic valve diseases (predominantly aortic stenosis [AS]; 326 patients and aortic regurgitation [AR]; 130 patients). They assessed preoperative and follow-up echocardiography at 1 year post-AVR. In both AS and AR, echocardiographic parameters at 1 year following AVR, compared with preoperative parameters, were more significant as predictors of long-term outcomes. For long-term follow-up of patients following AVR, early postoperative remodeling deserves more attention.
