Effect of flash glucose monitoring technology on glycemic control and treatment satisfaction in patients with type 2 diabetes
Diabetes Care May 03, 2019
Yaron M, et al. - In patients with type 2 diabetes using insulin, researchers evaluated treatment satisfaction and the efficacy of a flash glucose monitoring (FGM) system. For this investigation, they randomly assigned 101 patients with type 2 diabetes on multiple daily insulin injections (MDI) for at least 1 year to the FGM intervention (n=53) or the standard care (control) group (n=48) and followed them for 10 weeks. Both groups were instructed in face-to-face and telephone visits to adjust their insulin doses. According to results, the intervention group found much more flexible treatment and would recommend it to their counterparts. There was a high level of satisfaction using the FGM system. Investigators concluded, without increasing hypoglycemia frequency, FGM may to improve treatment satisfaction and can lead to improved glycemic control in MDI patients with type 2 diabetes.
