Effect of atrial fibrillation and mitral valve gradients on response to percutaneous mitral valve repair with the MitraClip system
American Journal of Cardiology Jul 23, 2018
Spieker M, et al. - Researchers determined the influence of mitral valve pressure gradients (MVPG) following MitraClip on outcomes in patients with and without atrial fibrillation (AF). Echocardiography was performed, both before and after the procedure, on a total of 200 patients who underwent MitraClip implantation in their institution. All-cause mortality 1-year after MitraClip implantation as well as clinical improvements in NYHA functional class and reduction in MR severity after MitraClip implantation were assessed. They observed that the presence of post-procedural MVPG above 4.0 mmHg and pre-existing AF predicted poor long-term outcome and characterized a high-risk cohort.
