Educational weight loss interventions in obese and overweight adults with type 2 diabetes: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Diabetic Medicine Dec 26, 2019
Maula A, Kai J, Woolley AK, et al. - Given the significance of weight loss for decreasing disease-related morbidity and mortality and the value of weight loss of 10–15 kg to reverse type 2 diabetes, researchers examined the efficacy of community-based educational interventions for weight loss in type 2 diabetes. In this systematic review and meta-analysis, they screened nearly 7,383 records. Of these, they assessed 228 full-text articles and included 49 randomized, controlled trials (n = 12,461 participants) in this review, with 44 being suitable for inclusion in the meta-analysis. According to findings, the most promising interventions for obtaining the largest weight and BMI reductions in people with type 2 diabetes comprised low-calorie, low-carbohydrate meal replacements or diets combined with education.
