Early macular and peripapillary vasculature dropout in active thyroid eye disease
Graefe's Archive for Clinical and Experimental Ophthalmology Nov 08, 2019
Jamshidian-Tehrani M, et al. - Researchers undertook this observational analysis to compare active thyroid eye disease (TED), not active not compressive (NANC) TED, and control eyes in terms of macular and peripapillary vasculatures. They analyzed 21 eyes, 77 eyes, and 65 eyes of 12 active TED patients, 43 NANC patients, and 35 healthy normal individuals, respectively. They performed optical coherence tomography (OCT) and OCT angiography (OCT-A) of the peripapillary and macular areas among the participants. They measured macular ganglion cell complex as well as peripapillary and macula superficial and deep vasculatures. Findings revealed that subclinical retinal and optic nerve involvement was demonstrated by OCT-A findings of lower peripapillary and macular vessel density values in the active TED eyes.
