Early cardiovascular risk and all-cause mortality following an incident of severe hypoglycaemia: A population-based cohort study
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism May 16, 2019
Lo SC, et al. – Researchers assessed the temporal association between hypoglycemia and cardiovascular events in this observational cohort study with 360,000 patients with newly diagnosed during the period from 1999 to 2001 with diabetes. They ultimately included 10,157 patients with severe hypoglycemia and 20,314 matched controls. A significantly higher risk of CVD and all-cause mortality was seen during the first month following a hypoglycemic episode in patients with severe hypoglycemia vs those without. During the following months these risks declined quickly but were still higher than the risk in patients without hypoglycemia seen in a long-term follow-up study.
