Duration of vaginal birth after cesarean- Is stage of labor at previous cesarean a factor?
American Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology Jan 04, 2019
Rottenstreich M, et al. -In this retrospective longitudinal study performed at a single academic teaching hospital, during 2006-2014, researchers investigated if the stage of labor at which the cesarean was performed at first delivery is associated to the duration of spontaneous 2nd delivery. They included 58,028 parturients with spontaneous onset of labor that completed a vaginal delivery (VD). Parturients undergoing first VD displayed significantly prolonged duration of labor compared to those undergoing repeat VD, 364 vs 152 minutes, respectively. They noted shortening of the duration of subsequent delivery on reaching the second stage of labor. This study may further enhance the understanding of the difference between primiparity to multiparity in regards to duration of spontaneous labor.
